1 RANGE OF PROPOSED ACTIVITIES

All our workshops are taught in French and English. For Japanese customers, the workshops are exclusively done with a Japanese interpreter.

Standard workshops of four days

They take place at Pihaena, on the island of Moorea, or on your lodging spot, If your hotel or pension agrees.the teacher's transportation cost to the spot will be charged.

Standard workshops are organized in order to be included within a tourist holiday. They are programmed to let you have the time to visit the island and enjoy other activities during your stay in Moorea.

Private workshops : 1 to 4 people
Group workshops: 6 to 20

Group workshops are organized at convenient dates and within TE ORO’s availability within your own schedule. Reservations must be done together and are submitted to special payment and cancellation conditions. Group workshops are organized at Pihaena, a cultural spot in The Cook's Bay.

Special workshops

A special program is proposed for seniors; Also a special program can be organized for students with dancing level and who wish to take advanced classes.
A special workshop for couples, especially for honeymooners, with a special rate.

We also propose on demand workshops : you ask for your own program.

2. WHAT THE 4 DAYS DANCE WORKSHOP INCLUDES

Each workshop includes:
• 12 hours of class divided in four sessions of three hours, during four consecutive days. A two hours lecture about the dance ( history, dance in the tahitan society, link to the language and the rythm, identity)

• A dancing dress for the final performance including a pareo suit – a long pareo and bolero top, and a vegetal dress – green auti skirt, auti crown, and flower lace. The dancing dress is necessary to participate to the final show. It is sold on site. The cost is not included in the workshop rate. 50€

• On the afternoon before the final performance (the fourth day), students can watch and learn how to make the vegetal dress.
• A show at the end of the workshop is performed by the student, which lasts 5 to 10mn depending on the number of members at the performance.
• A lecture on dance: the workshops includes a two hours lecture about dance . the lecture can be included in the lessons , during apause, you can can have it separatly.

A private cameraman can film the show and the dancers could have a DVD of the show. Cost of the DVD is not included in the workshop rate and has to be paid directly by the student. The film will include the show and preparation of the show, etc.- Hiko Fukawa can further explain this service. informations about the DVD

3. PROGRAM OF THE WORKSHOP

The workshops take place on a very charming spot , alarge traditional house in the Cook's bay.
The classes are not done directly on the beach but near, with a scene suitable for Tahitian dance practice.

TE ORO dance workshops give you the opportunity to initiate to Tahitian dance. You will learn the bases of dancing, fundamental principles of the movement of Tahitian dance.
You will discover how Tahitian dance is structured: the art of the movement is based on the sound and Tahitian language. You will learn how to make vegetal dresses that you will wear for the show, at the end of the workshop.
The final show will give you the opportunity to experience how it feels to be a Tahitian dancer, on a Tahitian scenery by the lagoon. This unique experience will be recorded and you will depart with this unforgettable souvenir.

The discover of the practice of Tahitian dance might give you the desire to acquire more practice than what you have been learning for four days, within the birth of Tahitian dance. It will be possible in your own country, in one of the schools offering Tahitian dance classes.

4. SHOW DINNER

The dinner show is the height of the workshop. it will be organized only for large groups.
The show will be performed on the last day of the workshop, after the last class.

The dresses: A pareo and matching bolero top, vegetal dresses in auti and flowers. In the afternoon, if you wish, you will watch and participate to the confection of the dresses. These are fresh cut leaves, which can only be confectioned the same day.
Explanation on the auti and its different styles of weaving will be given during the weaving class.

But if you prefer to relax instead of watching the weaving show, you can just jump into the vegetal dress tailored on your size and dance with it.
Senior workshops have a slightly different dancing dress.
The show will last about ten minutes for a group of 10 persons. If the group is larger, the time of the show will be adjusted so that everyone has the opportunity to dance on the front row and stars in the video.
The DVD is recorded and produced by Hiko Fukawa, specialized in weddings and diving videos. The video will not only include the show but also the preparation of the dancers before the show and the dinner itself.

5. PEDAGOGY OF THE WORKSHOP

Day 1 Contact. Instructions for body standing. General principles of hip balancing and rolling. Principles of moving in space: rhythmic time; full time…Relation between the music and the movement. Initiation to the listening of traditional drums. Basic notions of gesture and coordination exercises.

Day 2 9 h to 12 h 30 or 15 to 18 30   Practice of previous movements. Speeding and slowing of the pace on a repeated rhythm. Assimilation of balancing and rolling (tamau and farapu). Initiation of two other steps (amaha and toro), with synchronized gesture. How to link gesture and meaning. Relation of the gesture and text.and words. Endurance exercises (soft).

Day 3 9 h to 12 h 30 or 15 to 18 30 . Learning of two other steps (ami and varu). Choreography beginning level: two short combined movement on drums and one elementary aparima (dance with a song).

Day 4 9 h to 12h 30 or 15 to 18 30  dress demonstration starting at 13h until the time of trying the dresses for the show. Practicing and advanced movement. The second part of the 4th session is destined to the preparation of the show, at the end of the workshop.
The final show takes place on the traditional scene of Te Pu Atitia. Of course, participation is not obligatory but the dinner show is included in the workshop. The student who does not desire to be part of the show can just watch and enjoy it.

6. WORKSHOPS FOR SENIORS

In Polynesian culture, women use to dance until mature age. It is usual to see “Moms group”, with some dancers being more than 70 year-old. This tradition gives us the idea to propose senior workshops. The agenda for senior workshops is similar to teens’ and women’s.
Specificity of senior workshop :Rhythm is less intense, less physical – Choreography is different – Dresses for the show is suitable for mature behaving and wellness. It is normal to integrate a senior workshop starting 40 year-old. However, until 45 year-old, you could still integrate a standard workshop. It is your own choice.
Organization
Special senior workshops are for individuals as well as for groups. Agencies schedule dates with TE ORO. The rates are the same.
Organization is the same for all group workshops. Offered services are the same then for the other workshops, only the dress is different but the rate is the same.

7. ADVANCED WORKSHOPS

Advanced workshops are for individuals as well as for groups.. It is designed for students with a certain level of Tahitian dance.
The basis of the workshop is the standard workshop: 12h of classes divided in 4 sessions of 3 hours each.
Special services: the content of the workshop can be adapted to the students level.
The number of class hours can be scheduled as desired, e.g. 3h per day; 4 or 5 h per day; during 3, 4, 5, or 6 days.
Workshop program can be designed according to the students’ requests: more basic techniques and variants; more choreography; Solo techniques…
Opening conditions for advanced workshops: They are the same as any group workshop –

Rates: Rates are negotiable according to requested services.

8. CONDITIONS FOR STANDARD WORKSHOPS
Accessory services   the training kit, the dancing dress for the show , the snacks during the pause in each session are not included in the workshop’s rate. It can be sold on site.

The DVD of the show has to be paid directly to Hiko Fukawa. It is required to inform in advance that you would like to buy the video.
Aptitude for the practice of Tahitian dance: Candidates at the workshop must check that they are apt for the practice of Tahitian dance.

9. SPECIAL CONDITIONS FOR GROUPS

Reservations  Group reservations have to be done together for a minimum of 5 people and a maximum of 20 people. Above this number, the group is split into two classes in order to ensure the quality of teaching.
There is no deadline for group reservations. But if you wish to make a reservation only two weeks before the workshop, space at TE ORO might not be available.
If the hotel where the students are staying agrees, the workshop can take place at the hotel.site.

10 HALF DAY WORSHOP

This formula is designed for people who spend one-day trip in Moorea, or people who would like to discover the dance and initiate to the practice of dancing.
The program includes:
Two hours class that includes initiation to two basic movements of dancing: -Balancing and Rolling, and a few steps
-A basic gesture indicating the relation between word, language and dance.
A 30 minutes lecture on dancing: history, basic principles, role in modern society, etc, Questions & Answers
Accessories: a practice kit including a head-shade, Tee shirt, pareo and monoi bottle is sold on site. It is optional, but the student need a pareo for dancing.
Approximate length of the program is 3 h, and could be shorten to 2 h 30 if necessary.
The half day program can be held in the morning or in the afternoon, at the time requested by the customer, the agency, or the tour operator.
The rate is proportionate to the number of participants, with a minimum of one person. The mini workshop can take place at Painapo Beach or on the lodging site. No food is included, unless request.

11. MINI WORKSHOPS:

Mini workshops propose an intermediary formula between the day tour and the standard workshop.
Mini workshops offer 6 hours class and one-hour lecture with questions-answers on dancing. The mini workshop can be scheduled on two or three days. Two formulas are proposed:
- Two-day formula with a daily session of three hours class and half-hour lecture – questions & answers.
- Three-day formula with three sessions of two hours class and 20mn of lecture- questions & answers.
These workshops do not include any food. During the pause, the student can order a snack if desired.
The students have to wear a paeo for dancing
A practice kit including the head-shade, Tee shirt, pareo and monoi bottle offered for all workshops is sold on site. It is optional: the student can have teir own pareo and Tee shirt .

Because of the short length of the workshop, there is no show at the end of the workshop; unless on demand.
The program of Mini workshop consists of: initiation of basic movements and steps of Tahitian dance; gesture and signification; a simple movement step. No DVD video is offered but a digital photo album (USB or CD) is available or sent by mail.

You can have a mini workshop with a 4 hours class ( two sessions) and a one hour lecture.That is our "Maha workshop"

All our workshops can be offered as private workshops or group workshops. The rate depends on the number of students.
